LVB Release History

A brief history of releases of LVB phylogeny software is given below.

  • October 2015. LVB 3.4. Major increase to speed.
  • May 2015. LVB 3.3. Major increase to speed.
  • April 2015. LVB 3.2. Minor improvement to the calculation of “energy” when there are gaps or totally ambiguous bases.
  • January 2015. LVB 3.2 Beta. Major improvements to speed, including multithreading; the stateset-packing approach of White & Holland (2011, Bioinformatics 27:1359-1367, Section 2.10); and use of SSE4.2. Additional alignment formats may be read. Options are now communicated to LVB by the command-line. Switched to BSD 3-clause licence.
  • June 2014. LVB 3.1. Minor changes. Slightly increased speed.
  • March 2014. LVB 3.0. Minor changes. When bootstrapping, only output one tree per replicate.
  • December 2013. LVB 3.0 Beta. Major changes to the cooling behaviour of LVB: LVB now adapts the starting temperature of a search to the data set at hand, resulting in more effective annealing. Furthermore, the addition of a linear cooling schedule allows for a more extended exploration of the search space, which while taking longer run time, also yields significantly shorter trees.
  • May 2012. LVB 2.31. Released for Raspberry Pi.
  • July 2010. LVB 2.3. Improved tree-finding due to adding a hill-climbing search at the end of each simulated annealing search. Also, LVB itself now decides how long to run for: it does one ‘fast’ search, followed by two or more ‘slow’ searches, stopping when two consecutive slow searches fail to find new results.
  • February 2006. LVB 2.2.
  • November 2005. LVB 2.2 Beta. Increased speed due to more efficient calculation of tree length.
  • August 2003. LVB 2.1. Added bootstrapping. Also, minor algorithmic change, on interpretation of “energy” in the face of many ambiguous sites.
  • July 2003. LVB 2.0A. Minor changes. Also compiles for Windows.
  • June 2003. LVB 2.0. Major algorithmic change: now uses nearest neighbour interchange and subtree-pruning regrafting to update the tree.
  • February 2003. LVB 2.0 Beta 2. Minor bug fixes.
  • February 2003. LVB 2.0 Beta 1.
  • February 2003. LVB 2.0 Alpha 1 (distributed by email only). Improved interface, uses PHYLIP matrix format, allows ambiguous bases, calculates tree length more quickly.
  • August 1997. LVB 1.0A. Minor bug fixes. Also compiles for Windows.
  • 1997. LVB 1.0. First release.
